My family lives in Sylvania, Ohio a suburb of Toledo, Ohio. Downtown Toledo is about a fifteen minute drive from where we live.
In high school I was on our recreational rowing team. We would practice along the Maumee River, which is the body of water in the above picture. We took Johanna and Max for a walk along the river to see the big boats that were floating by. We could only stay for a few minutes because the heat was a horrendous 100+ all humidity, but Johanna didn't seem to mind!
Earlier that day we went to my favorite candle store, Swan Creek which makes hand crafted soy-based candles that I love. Every trip home I have to pick up some to bring back. We also took a walk by the Mud Hens stadium, Toledo's AAA Minor League baseball team.
There is a really popular pizza place connected to the stadium that we had to try out. It took 40 minutes for our deep dish pizza pie to bake, but as you can tell from Max' expression it was well worth the wait. Turns out our waitress was my dear friend Kristin's sister, what a surprise! Kristin lives in Arizona with her husband, so it was a nice treat to see her sister!
As usual, a big part of my trip was spent eating yummy snacks. There is a show on t.v. right now called "Cupcake Wars," a food competition between 3 or 4 different bakeries for the best cupcakes. Sylvania's "Cake in a Cup" was a winner on a recent episode so we had to try out an assortment of different flavors. We got red velvet (my favorite!) dreamsicle, cherry coconut, peanut butter cup and a black forest.
We also got to indulge in my favorite pizza, Inky's. Growing up I remember having this at my Grandma's house or my Dad would always pick some up on his way home from work for pizza Friday's. It was still as great as I remembered it, thin Italian style...yum!
Between staying with my parents, up at the cottage and visiting friends I also got to spend Saturday through Wednesday in Fort Wayne, Indiana visiting my Sister and Brother in Law. We had a lot of fun relaxing and enjoying the babies. It was so much fun to be able to make dinner and hang out every night, I wish they didn't live so far away so we could do it every weekend!
Johanna spent the majority of her time chasing after her cousin Max.
Since it was so hot Johanna spent a lot of her time running around in her diaper. This girl loves to be naked so she was as happy as a clam!
Getting snuggly with Oma.
Johanna was very overwhelmed at times meeting so many new faces at once. There were times she wasn't sure what to think and would be very nervous and would cry for me to hold her. My cousin Johnny is like the baby whisperer, he held Johanna withe ease while she snuggled up against him like a giant teddy bear, it was so precious!
My friend Marissa's Dad is a keyboardist in a band that was performing at the local amphitheater and quarry. Melissa, Dad and I with the babies went to check it out. I was so glad the time coincided with this concert, being at the quarry and hearing my friend's Dad brought back so many memories of my childhood!
Here is the last toothless photo I have of Johanna. She is now the proud owner of two pearly whites. Last Friday (July 29th) her second bottom tooth finally popped through. That explains why she was having some sleep troubles last week, I should have known!
Ohio has some great spots. Emily on the rowing team, how cool is that. Love the picture of your dad and Johanna you should send him the picture.
ReplyDeleteLove the last picture of Johanna! It's such a classic look of hers! Why haven't I seen you in a week?!
