Movie Time

 I am so excited that Johanna is into movies. My husband is not into movies. I can convince him to take me to one about twice a year and that's as long as the movie has some type of action and not too much romance. Now that my little peanut is growing up I know I've got a permanent movie buddy! When Johanna saw her first preview for Disney's latest movie, Brave her first response was "see it!" So my friend Katie and I made some plans to take the kids to their first movie at the theater.

 There were showings all day long starting from 9:30 in the morning. We decided on the 10:30 showing and brought along some lunch. We weren't sure if Johanna and Etta were going to be the youngest kids in the theater, but as it turned out they weren't! The theater was full of little kids.

 As Johanna walked into the theater and took in the sights and smells she shouted "Wow!!!"

 They loved the big comfy chairs in the beginning, but both ended up in our laps once the lights were dimmed. The previews were a little scary in my opinion and Johanna kept her eyes closed for most of it. I was worried that taking her may have been a bad idea. But once the movie started she was glued! She loved the music and princess Merida.

 Katie made the girls these adorable Merida dresses. Isn't she so talented?

 Hmm, this doesn't looked forced does it, ha!

Taking Johanna to her first movie was so much fun! Johanna was dancing to the music, pointing out several things such as princess, bear and horsie as they appeared on the screen and loved snacking on her lunch and special fruit snack treat. She did even better than I expected and sat throughout the whole thing. She did get a little restless about 15 minutes to the end so she stood in front of Daddy and was happy until the end. The movie was super cute too, I would definitely recommend it but be prepared for some tears at the end!

Busy Baby

 Today JJ tried out his bumbo chair. It was originally his sister's chair but who says boys can't have purple stuff? He was so proud of himself, you could just tell from his little smile.

 My little boy, where is the time going?!

Not only was today his first day in his bumbo chair, it was the the first day he rolled over from his tummy to his back! This little stinker hates tummy time so much that his main goal every time I place him on his mat is to figure out how in the world to get himself out of that position. Today I left him for a minute to tend to Johanna. I could hear his usual grunts and squeals, but then I saw he was trying really hard this time to roll over. So Johanna and I cheered him on for a minute and he did it!

Father's Day

While Jeff was busy at work last Friday before our big trip to the Midwest (many more posts to come on that later!) Johanna, JJ and I were busy making a special Father's Day gift for him. Way back when Johanna was a wee little one we tried a craft that involved dipping her feet in paint and she was not having it. Now that she's older she thinks it's hilarious and loves the sensation of the paintbrush on her toesies- 'tickles!! tickles, Momma!'  

I didn't really know what we were going to make him, but I had a leftover canvas and a bunch of paint so we decided to make painted ties...what better gift for Father's Day?

We love you Jeff, thanks for being such a great Dad. You work so hard to provide and care for us and it does not go unnoticed. You are such a loving and caring Daddy and your kids adore you as do I!

Hot Entree?

 So one of the perks (or downsides depending on how you look at it...) of being in different "Moms" groups is the breakfast buffet you get to enjoy at every meeting. However, if you are anything like me and like to avoid early morning cooking disasters committing to bringing the hot entree can seem a very daunting task. So much so for myself that I've evolved into the donut mom or I'll bring the juice! mom. So here comes Pioneer Woman. If you still aren't sure who this lady is, check out her website she's my Little House on the Prairie meets Martha Stewart meets Rachael Ray. Translation: home cooking the men folk like with class but cheap and fast. I know, first the mac and cheese then the sweet and spicy pork. Now here comes Make-Ahead Muffin Melts!

The greatest thing about this breakfast meal is you can prepare it the night before, pop it in the oven the next morning and you're good to go! The meal practically makes itself and guarantees no morning cooking breakdowns, however it doesn't help with dressing the kids and getting them out the door, darn.

 You boil the eggs and mix the rations the night before.

 Then spoon the mixture on to your favorite english muffin the next morning and pop it into the oven to broil.

 A few minutes later you have deliciously cheesy-bacony-egg muffin melts. Kid tested, Mother approved and husband satisfied. Totally recommend this for anyone who is needing an entree idea for that next meeting.

 Best part about it you can make it the day before while the kids are down for their naps.

That is if they let you...

Ingredients

• 12 whole Hard-boiled Eggs, Peeled And Chopped
• 2 cups Grated Cheddar Cheese (I used 1 cup cheddar and 1 cup shredded nacho mix cheese. Did you know they make this? It's the best cheese out there!)
• 1 cup (Real) Mayonnaise
• 12 slices Bacon, Fried And Crumbled
• 1 Tablespoon (heaping) Dijon Mustard
• 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
• 3 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
• 6 whole English Muffins Split

Preparation Instructions

Combine eggs with all other ingredients. Fold together gently. Cover and store in the fridge overnight.

Spread on English muffin halves, then broil for 3 to 5 minutes or until hot and bubbly. (Don't set them too close to the heating element.)

Serve immediately!

Little Man

Back when we were in the hospital our friend Katie brought us some candies and little homemade gift for our new arrival. It was an adorable little red bandanna with JJ's name sewn on.

I think the blue in the letters brings out his little blue eyes.

Thank you Katie, I love my little bandanna!

This was also the first day that Johnathan got to wear his pair of jeans.

Doesn't he look like a little cowboy?

JJ is such a great baby. He will be 11 weeks in two days. He has been busy discovering his fingers and tongue and experimenting with the different noises that he can make. He is a great eater and likes to nurse every 2-3 hours in the daytime. He likes to take little naps throughout the day, but he also takes a fairly consistent nap from 9-10 (when we are home!) and then again from 1-4 in the afternoon. I am keeping my fingers crossed that his afternoon nap continues as its been going because that's also when Johanna takes her nap and it's so great to have that time to catch up on chores...or reading or tv or blogging ;) He goes down right to bed after Johanna at 8 and sleeps till about midnight. Then he wakes up again around 3 and later at 6am. Growing boy's gotta eat! He is a super happy baby and loves to giggle when you sing to him, tickle, play with his pacifier, dance or act goofy. Tummy time is not a favorite of his and he would much rather be sitting up to take everything in or nice and snug in Mom's arms. His favorite activity is standing up on his big strong legs and playing the bouncing game (jumping up in the air.) And he is still adoring his big sis!

Jeff and I were just talking about how quickly he is growing up. I think your second goes by twice as fast since you're twice as busy, but it is so much fun!

Tie Dyed Family

On Friday Jeff and I had a pseudo date night. I say pseudo because we had a little tag along with us, Mr. JJ! He got all dressed up in his little shirt that his cousin Staci made for him, doesn't he look handsome? 

I recently read a book called Heaven is for Real and the family that wrote the book was speaking at our church. During the serious question and answer time JJ got a case of the giggles and was laughing hysterically, what a goof ball! What do you know, Jeff was also laughing during inappropriate times, like father like son!

On Saturday the boys worked hard in our yard laying rocks then Sunday we had a family bbq. Johanna sported her piggy tails to the event. This morning the tutu skirt that was thrown on the floor from yesterday immediately caught Johanna's attention- "dress, dress! princess! wear it, wear it!" today will be day two of tutu.

Brian and Lori had gone to Oklahoma a few weeks prior and brought back some t-shirts from a famous pizza joint. Before heading over, Kara sent me a text asking if we wanted to coordinate outfits with the kids. Who can resist a photo op?

Of course, this is the picture I ended up with. Maybe Kara was able to capture a few more smiles than me!

Johanna is really turning into quite the lover. Here she is giving her Daddy a smooch.

I have a feeling these two are going to be trouble together as they get older! Here they are playing in the puddle that they'd created after knocking my water cup over. Silly kids!

And here is JJ having a blast sitting with Aunt Tura. He's got the case of giggles here too, such a love bug.

For dinner we decided to do a pot luck. I've been feeling bad that the numerous cookbooks I've collected over time are starting to acquire a rather thick layer of dust. So who better to try out new recipes on than family? This week I made a sweet and spicy pork, Kara made a yummy grilled corn salad and Lori made the yummy spicy mac n' cheese from last week. We were all pleased with the results and can't wait to try out another cookbook in a few more weeks!

Happy Fathers Day, Pa!

Last week we celebrated Johnathan's Baptism. Since Jeff and I are going to be out of town over Father's Day we had to celebrate a little earlier. JJ didn't mind at all sharing his day with Pa :)

  Grandpa was missing a 9 iron from his set of clubs so the boys thought what a perfect gift idea! Turns out to buy one club was half the cost of a full set. It had been awhile since they'd gotten their Dad a big gift so they came up with a great idea.  

 They grabbed an old 9 iron of Brian's that he kept stored in his garage and brought it out as his gift. Grandpa was pretty skeptical but wasn't sure what to think of it so he played it off as if he was really thankful for the old used club.

 But the joke was on him because soon after Russ brought out his actual gift, a full new set of clubs!

 Tyler was a great helper opening up the gift, we were all excited to see what was inside.

 Happy Father's day to all the Overman boys, we love you all!

Potty Tales

So this may be one of those stories Johanna gets mad at me later for sharing, but I feel like its just one of those classic must-document events. Johanna has a little sit down baby bjorn potty that she likes to go in about once a day. We aren't even going near potty training because she only likes to go once a day. No more and no less. She really likes to go in it while she's wearing any form of dress, nightgown or costume and I think it's because that's when she feels most princess-y and proper (and I'm not kidding!) The last few times she's gone potty Jeff and I have noticed she likes to cover herself up with the shower curtain. It is so funny. Last time this happened I figured okay, maybe little chica wants some privacy. So I told her I was going to go check on baby brother and I left the room. Little did she know I was really just standing outside spying on her through the crack in the door.

Well even while I was gone she would still pull the curtain over her. I'd hear her make a few noises then stop- peak down below to check for progress then pull the curtain back and repeat. After a few minutes of this routine I heard her get up and say all done! Flush it flush it! with a big proud smile on her face. So I went in and low and behold, she'd gone #2! Woohoo!!! So there you have it, I am documenting her first official poo.
