Sick Day

This weekend we spent both days in our comfy clothes lounging around the house. Johanna and Jeff were both feeling sick so we decided to take it as easy as possible. Me being the paranoid Mommy that I've turned into had to take her into the after hours Dr. to ease my mind and make sure she wasn't suffering from anything major (RSV, bronchiolitis, pneumonia...the possibilities are endless!) Luckily it is just a virus and is working it's way out of her system. Even though Johanna wasn't feeling her best she was as happy as ever and loved spending time in her swing. She is getting so big it makes her little ears stick out, it is so cute!A few people suggested we bring Johanna into the bathroom and get it nice and steamy to help with her cough. We turned on the shower to get it nice and steamy, it was like our own personal sauna! With the sound of the water falling in the shower and the vibrations of her bouncy chair, she was out in no time.Another thing she loves to do is lie on her tummy while on my legs. I would rub her back while she looked around at everything- she loved it!

In other news Johanna has been working really hard on her play mat. She has turned from her tummy on to her back a few times. While she is on her back she likes to roll on to her side and work really hard on getting back on to her tummy. She can only do it for a little while before she gets too frustrated with herself- you should hear the grunts and squeals that she comes up with while she is working. It is amazing how much she has changed in the past three months!

Visiting the Office

Today Johanna and I went to visit Jeff at work and grab some lunch together as a family. We went to a little sushi place off of 16th street. It was great! Maybe one day Johanna will have a taste for sushi? She isn't looking too impressed with it in this picture. On the way to Jeff's office we had to a ride in an elevator from the parking garage into the main building. Johanna didn't seem to notice that we were going up.It is pretty big inside the Wells Fargo building where Jeff works. There is even a Starbucks inside...lucky!Somewhere up there are the two floors of Ensign offices where Jeff works.A view to the outside. We always have the stroller when we're shopping at the mall, so we always take the elevator. This time we didn't have the stroller so Johanna got to go on her first escalator ride! Going down...And her second escalator ride...going up! She thought it was cool to watch the people beside us going down. One more trip in an elevator...almost there!Alright! We finally made it... back to work we go."My job is just to look cute, right?"It was a lot of fun visiting Jeff at work and being able to spend some time with him on his lunch hour. It was really nice seeing Jeff's co-workers who haven't seen her in a while, they were all amazed at how big she has gotten!

Here is a little video of Johanna wiggling in her crib before going to see Jeff. She spends a lot of time kicking her legs high up into the air. She hasn't rolled on to her tummy yet, but she is working pretty hard at it!

Daddy's Girl

I never had any doubts that Jeff would make a great Daddy for his little daughter, but he has surprised me with just how great he is. This little girls LOVES her Dad, she loves snuggling with him and playing with him. I am even sad to say she loves watching football with him. Since day one, Jeff has embraced his role as Daddy and taken on any challenge that I (or Johanna) throw at him. He changes diapers like a pro, picks out outfits for the day and helps with everything else. Except baths. Those are too scary for him right now even though he's been shown several times. I guess some jobs will always be Mommy jobs. Thanks for being such a great Dad Jeff, we love you!

*Note: Jeff saw the blog and was horrified. Said he looked like a giant box with a head. He wanted to let everyone know to stop worrying about him and that he hasn't gained 100lbs. I laughed for about ten minutes because I hadn't really looked at him, mostly Johanna. But now looking back the pictures are pretty funny, particularly third one from the top. Sorry Jeff :)

Dr. Update

Last night Jeff was inspired by some recent pictures of his cousin Leah's adorable baby Brynnlee and thought it would be a good idea to let Johanna spend some naked time by the fire. She seemed to love it so much we are going to try it more often. The poor thing is trapped inside her diaper 24/7 it must feel great for her to wiggle in her birthday suit! And what is cuter than a naked baby butt?

Today we went to visit her Dr. for a follow up from her VCUG at the Children's Hospital last week. Johanna has a grade II vesicoureteral reflux on her right side. They are graded on a scale from I to V, so luckily she is favored to recover with out any intervention. She has been on a low dose of amoxacillin since Saturday to prevent another UTI from occurring and seems to be taking it well. She will continue taking this antibiotic for thirty days then we will switch to another antibiotic to prevent her from forming a resistance. Our Doctor did some research and found that 39% will outgrow this within the first year, 62% the second, and 74% the third. Obviously we will be praying for the first. He also suggested we see a Urologist for a second opinion. My Doctor has not had very much experience with this condition, and Johanna was his youngest patient yet to have it! For this I am thankful, it is fortunate we have caught it now to prevent her going years with untreated UTI's. I will be scheduling her appointment tomorrow for next week to ensure Jeff will be able to make it. (He may start traveling for work soon, but that is a different post in itself!) Although I do not like the idea of her being on an antibiotic for an extended period of time, I would hate to risk another infection. Untreated urinary tract infections can lead to scarring in your kidneys. This scarring then leads to hypertension and other heart conditions later in life. So for now I will continue giving Miss Johanna her bubble gum snack- that's what it smells like to me, and hope for the best outcome that she outgrows this by next year!

Bath Time

I love pandora.com, you can chose which type of music you want to listen to and it will only play music fitting your selection.Today Johanna I wanted to listen to Disney music. She LOVED the music from the Jungle Book (Wan'na Be Like You, and The Bare Necessities.) Or maybe she just liked watching me trying to sing them to her, those are some hard songs to keep up with!Yesterday we got to spend some time with my friend, Kristi. She is doing some work in some elementary schools around the neighborhood so we were able to meet up and get dinner at one of my favorite restaurants P.F. Changs. Johanna didn't want to sit in her car seat, so she sat at the table like a big girl and joined in on the girl talk.I've noticed that Fiona likes to check on Johanna when she hears her starting to fuss. Today while she was waking up from her nap I made sure to grab my camera. How would you like to wake up to that face?"Really Mom, do you have to take photos of me in the tub?"Do you notice the tiny red patches on her chest? I have been religiously applying lotion after bath time to prevent her from getting dry patches. I try to limit her baths to twice a week since Colorado is so dry and she isn't getting too messy at this age. I noticed the other day she was getting some dry skin, I have the same problem in the winter time. Any one know of a great lotion to take care of this? Right now we are using Burts Bees.Sometimes it's hard to tell how much Johanna has grown since bringing her home. When I put her in her bathtub today I was surprised to see that her little legs barely fit once she got busy splashing and kicking. Look at these chubby little things!

Johanna is still hard at work trying to find her fingers.

Of course no entry is complete with out a picture of Johanna zonked out :)

Nature and Science Museum

Today Jeff and I took Johanna to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The last time Jeff and I had been I was 9 weeks pregnant so for me it brought back memories of morning sickness, haha! Johanna's favorite exhibit was Space Odyssey. She loved looking around at all the sparkling stars. It probably brought back memories of her favorite store, St. Nicks. Notice how Johanna and I are matching? The funny thing is I didn't even realize it until I was nursing her several hours after getting her dressed, oops!Johanna is a major people watcher. She is practically falling off her Daddy to stare at the people in front of us in line for the elevator. I may have to teach her manners when she gets older ;)My favorite exhibit is Prehistoric Journey where they have a bunch of fossils on display. Here Johanna and I are checking out some dinosaurs in their natural habitat.Jeff and Johanna next to the 80 foot Diplodocus. She wasn't sure what to think of the giant bore-like thing behind us.After we left Jeff was making funny dinosaur noises at Johanna and she thought it was the funniest thing ever, it was so cute. She has been talking so much lately I love listening to all the noises that she can come up with! All in all we had a great time at the museum. It will be a lot of fun taking Johanna when she is a little older and knows what is going on.
