Baby Bean...boy or girl?

The day is almost here that we find out whether baby bean is a boy or girl. I am so excited I can hardly wait. Everyone asks whether I want a boy or girl and the honest answer is that I don't care either way I just want a healthy and happy baby. Then when people ask okay but what do you really want I usually answer girl. My reasons are very simple, we have a ton of girl stuff! However, when I think about having a little boy I am equally as excited. I have a handful of little nephews and they are just too much fun!

Back before Nathan was Nathan but 'Blueberry' Kara posted a bunch of old wives tales as a fun way to determine whether they were having a boy or girl. I thought that was such a neat idea Jeff and I got in on the fun yesterday. I found a website that had several listed here are our results pink= girl blue=boy grey=too advanced for us to figure out and a blank answer=something you would probably thank me for not sharing

Old Wives Tale #1: If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl.  If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.  At our last appointment, the heart rate was 155.

Old Wives Tale #2: If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl.  If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.  Just like last time, I feel like this baby is already sitting high.
Old Wives Tale #3: Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly.  You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle.

Old Wives Tale #4: When your face gets fuller and rounder when pregnant, it means you’re going to have a girl.  If your face is long and narrow, it’s a boy.  Definitely feeling fuller, is there a line for breaking out like a teenage boy too?

Old Wives Tale #5: This test involves a key.  If you pick up a key at the top (the roundest part), you are going to have a boy.  If you pick up the key at the bottom (smallest part), you are going to have a girl.  If you happen to grab the key in the middle, congrats, it’s twins!
Old Wives Tale #6: The Mayan tale adds the mother’s age at conception and the year of conception.  If the result is an even number then mom is having a girl.  If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way!  26+2011=2037
Old Wives Tale #7: If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl.  Ah here we go! This is a big fat yes.
Old Wives Tale #8: Some believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy.  If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.  Oh boy, this is tough because I am craving both. But my latest cravings have been fruity pebbles, dippin’ dots, and ham and swiss sandwiches. I also have orange juice every night with my vitamins. So I guess sweets outweigh savory.
Old Wives Tale #9: The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl. I have a “V”, so one more point for a girl. This one was way too confusing for us to figure out.
Old Wives Tale #10: This tale only applies if you have had previous kids.  If you have and that child’s first word was momma, you will have a girl.  If your first child’s first word was dadda, you’ll have a boy. Definitely a Dadda girl! She even calls me Dadda sometimes.
Old Wives Tale #11: If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy.  If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl.  I think it’s too early for me to tell on this one.
Old Wives Tale #12: If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you.  Your pregnancy will make you smile and be more happy if you are having a boy because there’s a little penis inside you.  Not sure how true this is, but it sure does make me laugh! Sadly, I will be the first to admit I have been very moody with this pregnancy.
Old Wives Tale #13: If you eat the ends of bread, it’s a boy.  If you eat the middle of the load, it’s a girl.  I’ve never liked the ends of bread (does anyone?) and always have eaten from the middle… Another point for a little girl.

Old Wives Tale #14: The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%.  It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived.  According to the Chinese, it’s a little boy on the way!

Old Wives Tale #15: Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy.  It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty.  If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, you might just be having a little boy.  Well I’m going with girl on this one.

Old Wives Tale #16: If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl.  If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy.  Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.  I've only had one dream of sex and it was last night....a little boy named Justin!

Old Wives Tale #17: If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl.  If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy. Judging by the bruises all around my body, this one is boy!
Old Wives Tale #18: If a toddler boy expresses interest in a pregnant woman, she is having a girl.  If he doesn’t show interest, she’s having a boy.  Hmm all the boys I’ve been around don’t necessarily know I’ve got a baby inside me, so I’m going to go with boy on this one!

Old Wives Tale #19: If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy.  If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. I'm a right side sleeper but this may also be my attempt to get as far away from Jeff's snores as possible ;)

Old Wives Tale #20: When the pregnant woman is asked to show her hands, it’s a boy if she keeps her palms down and a girl if she shows her palms up.

Old Wives Tale #21: If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl.  If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy.

Old Wives Tale #22:

Old Wives Tale #23:  Necklace Over Hand Have someone hold a necklace over your hand.  If the necklace swings back and forth, it’s a boy.  If it moves in a circle, it’s a girl.

Old Wives Tale #24 What Do You Think: 71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having. I'm thinking girl with this one, but for Johanna I could have sworn boy!

Old Wives Tale #25:  Morning Sickness If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy.  If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.

Old Wives Tale #26:

Old Wives Tale #27:  Protein When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.  There is my ham and swiss sandwich!
Old Wives Tale #28:  Feet Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant?  If so, you just might be having a boy.  If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl.
Old Wives Tale #30:  Hair on Legs If the hair on your legs has been growing at record speeds, you might be having a boy.  My residents always told me this meant girl, but apparently they were wrong!
Old Wives Tale #31:  Hands are Dry If your hands are constantly dry, it’s a boy.  Or you live in Colorado……hmmm!

Old Wives Tale #32:

Old Wives Tale #33:  Nose Do you feel like your nose is growing and getting wider?  If so, you might be having a boy.

Old Wives Tale #34:  Headaches If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. Funny I’ve been having an awful headache all day today!

Old Wives Tale #35:  Baby Names It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby.  We can only agree on our girl name.
Girl: 19 Boy: 12
Currently our blog poll has us in at:
Girl: 10 Boy: 8
Hmmm... looks like girl is in the lead but not by much! I know chances are 50/50 and these old wies tales are just for fun, however my gut is still telling me girl. My gut was telling me Johanna was a boy so we will see come Thursday!

We've got a 1 year old!

Johanna got to try on her new hula girl outfit from her Auntie Cheryl and Uncle Mike and cousins Monica and Brandon. I think cousin Bitty may have one too and you can tell it is a major hit with the girls! She doesn't know what Mommy think is so funny but she was joining in on the laughter.
Hula girl Hannie is a one year old now Jeff and I both agree we can't call her our baby anymore she is now our little girl! It's bittersweet I am happy she is growing up but as she becomes more and more independent I miss my little baby girl. Luckily she hasn't grown up too much and is still my little snugglebug.
-She's a little parrot and loves to copy cat say whatever words she can pick up on. Word list in Johanna language so far: nose, eyes, mouth, up, bear, dog, cat, bird, ball, duck, dadda, mamma, baba, papa(sounds a lot like baba), baby, balloon, tickle-tickle, and yes
-Likes to point to her nose and also pick it...oh boy
-When I say 'that's silly' she likes to make funny noises
-If we are home she typically takes two naps but lately she's been sleeping in later so we only do one longer afternoon nap which I must say has been nice!
-Is not ticklish but likes to tickle herself and others
-Is a very dainty eater (if you couldn't tell from her 1st birthday cake pictures!)
-Has half formula and half whole milk in her bottles right now, still has 3 bottles a day but we are slowly working on no day time bottle only milk in sippy cup.
-I reached my 1 year goal for nursing with the help of formula from our surprise pregnancy :) now we are working on morning weaning
-Still only has two chompers!
-Lets us know when she doesn't want something by swatting our hands away
-Loves jumping on the bed
-Is working on her walking but really loves standing
-Adores her Dad, as soon as the garage door opens in the evening she is zooming toward to door shouting dada!
-Wears 18 month clothing
-Sleeps with her bear, cat, duck and 'sleepy head' stuffed animal
-Has chipped off paint from her crib with her two little teeth. She stands up in her crib, puts her mouth on the side rail and walks back and forth! What a little stinker. I know they make covers for the front of the crib but I am on a search for something for the side.

This Friday is her 1 year appointment which means shots gallore wish us luck!

Birthday Party part III

 HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY JOHANNA FAITH!
The last year has flown by I remember the day you were born as if it were yesterday. You changed our lives the second we looked into your eyes and we can't remember what life was like before you were here. Every day is an exciting adventure watching you grow up. We love you so much!

Birthday Party part II

Last year when Johanna ended up being an October baby instead of a November baby I knew exactly what we would do for her 1st birthday...a Halloweeen costume party! It was so hilarious to see what everyone chose to be, everyone's costumes were so fun. We had prizes for best costume but in the craziness of the party I completely forgot about this, what a bummer!
Jeff loved his King hat, he said he's going to wear it on the weekends now. I had a hard time finding a Queen costume that would fit my growing belly but I lucked out and found this one online at Meijer! Meijer is like a Walmart but they only have them out in Michigan and Ohio, they always have the greatest stuff there too.
Etta as Little Red Riding Hood. Her Mom made the jacket and little apples in her basket, she was just so precious!
Klaire the bumblebee and Gigi the cat!
Johanna as Belle and Klaire the bumblebee with her Mommy Katheryn.
Nathan made an adorable dragon.

 Cassidy the beautiful bumblebee.
Landon the sheriff. I loved his little cow hide chaps!
Katie the mechanic and Thomas as Carmello Anthony with crazy hair! Well maybe he was someone else, but he was wearing Carmello Anthony's jersey and had crazy hair :)
Kristi the pumpkin. Somehow I missed Bill's costume, he was a detective!
Joe is the situation from The Jersey Shore and Lisa the cat. Lisa is due November 17th, doesn't she look great!
Joe and Julie as Tarzan and Jane with little Cassy in her jammies.
Lori and Brian as the court jesters. Brian wanted to show off his awesome shoes in this photo!
Here is a better shot minus screaming baby who wanted to get down and play.
Lindsay the flapper and Brian the wall street/occupy Denver protester.
Kara made the perfect Snow White! And Russ was a great Woody.
Tyler was Buzz of course!! He was so proud of his costume, when he walked through the door he had the biggest grin on his face. I'm sure he will get plenty of use out of this outfit over the next year!
These two picture just crack me up. Brian is Johanna's Godparent and every time she sees him she is terrified. The crazy hair and teeth weren't helping him win her over!
I know it's all an act though because she gave him a goodnight kiss before she went to bed.
The jester hats were a huge hit with the kids!
