JJ's Baptism Part I

 Our little Johnathan Jeffrey joined our church family yesterday in his Sacrament of Baptism! We were blessed with a beautiful day, service and well behaved children. Yesterday was Trinity Sunday and the Liturgy happened to be all about marriage, baptism and God's love for us- how perfect!

 Since the baptism followed the 12:30 mass we were all a little worried with how the big kids would do without their naps. Luckily, 12:30 mass is super casual and they did just fine! Tyler had plenty of room to run around and burn some energy, Johanna had her baby to swaddle and rock and Nathan is always great just sitting to take in all the action. Speaking of Johanna, it's hard to believe that just a year and a half ago we were sitting here with her! You can read about her baptism here.

 Our friends Lisa and Joe and their little boy Joey attend St. Thomas More too so it was really nice to have them there for JJ's big day!

 Here he is wearing his little white outfit I had gotten for him to wear during Mass and his party, it was a little pair of shorts with suspenders and a little white shirt. For his baptism we changed him into his Great-Great Grandpa's baptism outfit, it's over one hundred years old and is very special.

There was one other little boy there getting baptised. Lisa and Joe had little Joey's baptism at St. Thomas More just a few months ago and there were six kids! She said it was a lot less hectic with only two so we considered ourselves pretty lucky.

"The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven sacraments...Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church. Traditionally, the rite (or ceremony) of baptism is held outside the doors of the main part of the church, to signify this fact."

I thought that was pretty neat to read, and it is a nice reminder of why the baptism pool is at the enterance of our sanctuary. When you walk through the doors you typically reach into the pool to dip your fingers into the water then make the sign of the cross; this is to remind you of your baptism and personal relationship with God!

 While Johanna was watching from the pews with Gigi, she was a little worried for her brother. She kept shouting Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! There are several Jesus figures around the church and beautiful stained glass scenes, but I think Jesus was really there watching over JJ's special day and Johanna was just excited to see him ;)
