People Watching

This weekend we took the kids to the Denver Renaissance Festival. As soon as we parked the car and got out to start walking toward the entrance you are surrounded by employees dressed up as characters and regular people dressed up too. Sometimes it was hard to tell who was acting.
At first Johanna wasn't sure what to think of the different people, but as soon as we told her the ladies were princesses and that maybe she could find Rapunzel she started to warm up a little.
Again, not sure.... actors or not? The world will never know.
JJ got in on the people watching too!
Toward the end of the day Johanna was getting brave enough to approach some of the characters. Here she is waiting to see the faerie princess.
The faerie princess gave Johanna a shiny green rock and the Queen gave Johanna a pretend diamond. Johanna was so excited and called them her treasures, all day long she held on protectively to her special gifts.
There was a kid section with petting animals and rides. Johanna was so brave she went on her first ride all by herself. She chose the pink butterfly and didn't have any problems sitting on her own. Half way through the ride she yelled, faster! faster!
We got to watch the Celtic Legacy perform a few times. It was Renaissance Rock n' Roll!
Johanna really liked dancing to their music.
She also really loved the jousting shows.
They divided the crowds up by team, we were on the bad guy team. Our little jester lady would tell us when to cheer and boo, guess who was having a blast heckling the other teams.
JJ got to sit in the shade and wiggle his legs during the tournament.

Last time Jeff and I came to the festival we got to pet the elephants but we didn't ride them. This time for four dollars I took Johanna for a ride.
We got stuck behind another couple so Johanna couldn't really see the elephant, we will have to remember to sit in the front next time. She still thought it was really neat though and kept saying hi elephant!
Jeff posing with the pickle guys.
Instead of a turkey leg I tried the grilled corn this year, it was very yummy! We had so much fun taking JJ and Johanna to the festival. Johanna had such a great time that Jeff joked that he hoped she didn't have too much fun or she might end up working there when she's older. Not that there would be anything wrong with that ;)
