Race for the Cure '10

This Sunday was Denver's annual Race for the Cure. We decided to do the 5k walk in honor of my Grandma Margie. I had never done it before here in Denver so I wasn't going to let pregnancy get in the way! Jeff and I have been busy going to the gym and walking to prepare for labor, so luckily it didn't seem that far.
Here I am looking like I am ready to pop. Yesterday I updated my tennis shoes and the salesman there asked if I was hiding a basketball under my shirt. That is really what it looks and feels like! A lot of people were telling me good job for walking, but really it was the survivors and those battling that needed to be congratulated!
The walk led us over a bridge leading to I-25. Here you can see Denver off in the distance, with a nice bright glare from the sun. Can you believe we are still in the 80's out here in Denver? While we were walking along the interstate (and trying not to breathe in the fumes) you would look up to the bridge and see the hundreds of people crossing over.
Only .1 miles to go!
And we finished! This walk definitely left me with the itch to start running again. It brought back memories of our half marathon a few years ago and my pr that I need to beat. I am thinking I may train for another for next summer...will mommyhood allow for this?In the end we were given stickers to put on our shirts, I was given two. One for me and one for baby :)
Even twenty minutes after finishing the swarms of people just kept coming. The turnout was amazing, what support we have from Denver. Here's to another year of getting closer to finding the cure!

  1. I look at your pictures and miss going on the walk it truly is so inspiring... next year i will make no excuses and make the walk along with our granddaughter, how about you and Jeff run and second time round can walk with us. My favorite part is making that turn on i-25 ramp and seeing the sea of people walking just an amazing site.
