Stanley Hotel

My friends Lindsey and Drew from Ohio have been visiting us here in Colorado for the past weekend. We had to show Drew around some of the mountains and figured Estes Park was a great place to start. I love it for their yummy homemade ice cream and fudge that is abundant along the main street shopping area. Another hot spot is the Stanley Hotel, mostly known for its inspiration behind Stephan King's novel, The Shining. It is said to be haunted by several different ghosts.
We were all excited to go on the tour of the hotel when we found out children under 5 were prohibited from coming along. What a bummer! Johanna and I went on our own tour of the hotel and grounds while everyone else went on the 'exclusive' tour.
It has the creepy haunted hotel look down, don't you think? While filming Dumb and Dumber Jim Carrey stayed in room 217 (the room which is said to be most haunted) and ended up leaving later that night...I found that out from a brochure I read while trailing behind the tour I wasn't allowed to go on. Another fun fact... room 217 is booked for the next THREE years and is $400 more a night to stay in. Also, notice the orb in the top left corner? It's a ghost- gasp! Okay, maybe it's just the sun.
Johanna enjoyed herself up in the mountains as well. Do you like her new friend? He has that look that only a mother could love...and can you figure out what it is? We couldn't, but the tag filled us in. It's a bison. And it even makes bison noises. Think snarling and snorting and that's what it sounds like. Lets just say it isn't one of Johanna's favorites right now. And yes he has a name, it's Bert.

  1. So glad you're having a nice time with Lindsey! And who would ban a beautiful girl like Johanna from a tour?! That's crazy! Bert is um...cute! Haha!

  3. Why no kids/babies? Lame-o! That place sounds creepy. The exterior shots for that movie were done at a hotel in Oregon called the TimberLine Lodge and Eric spent a bunch of time there for skiracing. Bert does NOT look like a bison and why indeed is he wearing a safari outfit? The toymakers are goofballs.
