Gender Party

We wanted to have a fun way to tell our family and friends whether baby bean was a boy or girl and Kara had the greatest idea to make a cake for us with either a pink or blue center. We took her up on the offer and it turned into a  really fun and memorable event! Since Kara was watching miss Hannie while Jeff and I were at our appointment she was the first (and only!) one to know that we were expecting a little boy. She went right to work whipping up a delicious cake.
She really outdid herself and set up the cutest little party for our arrival. The door was decorated with pink and blue and banners saying "boy or girl?" and "this is your last chance to vote!" The table was also decorated with tons of blue and pink from the cups and utensils to pretty glass jars of pink and blue water- how cute!!
Here is the final product...doesn't it look fantastic?
We wanted to have my family involved so we set up two different computers to Skype. We called my Sister in Indiana who happened to have my Grandma (Oma) visiting. Then we called my family in Ohio.
Before the big cake cutting we took one final count. Since Kara, Jeff and I both knew what the cake had inside we still wore the colors that we had originally thought baby bean was. The final count was: Girl 10 Boy 5 the picture above would be Johanna voting (twice apparently!) for boy.
Then the moment we were all waiting for... the cake cutting!
BLUE!!!! It's a boy! Russ was very proud of his victory...
...as was Johanna!
We are so excited our little girl is going to be a big sister to our new baby brother addition.
It was so awesome to be able to share the moment with my family. Boy were they all surprised by the blue! In all reality we all were, we were all certain this baby would be a girl! Turns out we were wrong...as usual but couldn't be happier.
Did I mention the cake was delicious? The blue food coloring must have made it even more tasty!
Seeing that our house is completely covered in pink from head to toe I knew I needed to go out right away and bring some blue in! Jeff was very excited about the little outfits I brought back and I was excited with how small they are, you forget how tiny little ones start out! Bring on the blue :)

Thank you Kara for putting on such a great party and for taking all these great pictures, what a great way we can always remember this special day!
