These boots were made for walkin'

Yesterday we bundled up the kids and headed out to our town back-country to our local cattle operation. Around 70 head needed branding and immunizations. My camera was acting goofy so I didn't take many pictures, although I wish I would have!
There were several different activities set up for the kids; 'cattle' roping and target practice being most popular.
Lori had great aim with the air rifle. We will have to take her out with the real stuff and see how she does!
My favorite part were the horses of course. They have always reminded me of a bunch of larger more intelligent Fionas.
This dog was aching to get out and chase the cows around.
As if the branding wasn't enough for the little calves the males were also castrated. I didn't watch this part or take pictures because frankly it grosses me out. Brian joked and called me a city slicker. Next year he is going to serve everyone fresh Rocky Mountain oysters off the grill. If you don't know what they are you aren't missing anything ;)
Johanna was wearing her little cowgirl boots for the day. When we got home I had to make up for my lack of photos from the event with a little photo shoot of our own. It may not look like it but it but this was quite the production! With Fiona zooming left and right with her various outdoor toys, Johanna kicking off her boots and squealing with delight for being outside and me trying to figure how to use the remote properly while getting our legs in the shot proved a challenge to say the least.

  2. I love the cowboy/cowgirl boot pictures. I saw Kara's post first about the branding so I won't bore you about how I hate the poor cattle getting branded and castrated.
You definately need to get those pictures framed they are just the cutest pictures.

  3. So happy you were able to get a picture of those boots before Johanna grew out of them. Wasn't it great that she was able to wear them to a branding too! The chubby leg pics "Priceless"
