Denver Botanic Gardens

Today Johanna and I took advantage of the wonderful weather and headed down to the Denver Botanic Gardens. I had such a great time looking at all of the gorgeous flowers. There is something about being around so many beautiful living things that makes you feel so alive inside. As we walked through the main entrance we were immediately greeted by a huge welcoming garden walkway. The colors were bursting with each different flower I couldn't resist taking millions of pictures.

Entry into the herb garden, the whole area smelled heavenly.

 The entryway into June's PlantAsia
I was experimenting a little with different angles of the various statues. I think its cool how the same object can look so different depending on which way you look at it.
Here people would drop coins into the woman's bowl for good luck before entering the bamboo walkway.
Johanna taking a break from her sippy cup to pose for the camera.

Although it isn't a different angle, the camera's focus can also give you a different perspective of what you're looking at.

Johanna seemed to really enjoy the gardens. We took a break to have lunch and Johanna gobbled down over 4 oz of her pumpkin and bananas in record time. That is a lot for her at lunch time, she was a hungry girl!

 The Japanese Garden
There was a sensory garden primarily for the developmentally disabled that had various sensory integration items set up.
 Johanna enjoyed the 'touch' stations.

Her favorite place to visit was the Mordecai Children's Garden of course, a giant rooftop alpine garden.
There she was able to touch the soft grass that grows high in the mountains,
and feel the babbling water on her toes from "Springmelt Springs."
There are story times available that we will have to look into, but today Johanna enjoyed sitting in the big comfy chair. Johanna has learned how to raise her arms up when she wants me to come pick her up. Although that isn't what she is doing in this particular photo, it did remind me of this new trick of hers.
On top of Marmot Mountain there were chunks of wood blocks set aside for building structures.
She loved getting her little hands all over them.

What a great day! I had such a lovely time I had to exchange my day pass for a season pass. There is nothing more refreshing than a nice walk around such beautiful scenery so I plan on going again and again this summer and fall. The pass also gets us into their Chatfield and Mount Goliath parks and their Summer concert series. If anyone wants to come I can bring one with me free on my pass and kids 2 and under are free :)

After the gardens Johanna and I headed over to the yogurt shop down the street from my house. I have been craving this since, well the last time Jeff and I walked there. I figured since we had spent several hours out in the sun it was the perfect day for frozen yogurt. Johanna got to try her first bite of pistachio frozen yogurt and I'm pretty sure she is a big fan just like her Mom.

  3. Holy pictures! So many pretty flowers... did you make you wonder who plants and tends all that stuff? I wonder if they have a master gardener/botanist with minions or a team of people? How many acres is that place? COOL. JOhana is too stinkin' cute as always.
