This weekend went by so quickly because we were having a blast with Jeff's cousin, Staci. She is an awesome photographer and she was so super nice to come out to take family photos of the whole Overman crew. In between photo shoots we made sure to keep plenty busy with Colorado fun. I'm starting last from first so here is a highlight of Staci's last day in town.

We had until 2:00 o'clock before she had to head to the airport so we spent some time trying to think of a fun half day activity. Kara suggested we hike Castle Rock. For those of you have been out here to visit do you remember the city we drive through on our way to Colorado Springs with the huge outlet mall? That is Castle Rock.
I called my dear friend Katie to join us since she is my hiking buddy. We also brought along the kids a.k.a. our little explorers. Johanna loved spending time with Staci and Staci is amazing with kids.
The hike was classified as 'difficult' but it was only about a mile and half round trip and nothing that couldn't be done with babies in their backpacks! I'd say the most difficult part of it all was hiking with our super sore legs from the 5k we'd done the day before (more to come on that later).
The rock appears to be balancing on top of a hill and has been there since forever, which is why they named the town Castle Rock. This is a picture standing under the rock looking out onto the city.
Good thing we had Katie with us who had been before. She was able to stay behind to watch the kiddos while we scaled to the top, thanks Katie!
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas Castle Rock lights up this giant star that you can see from miles away. I didn't take this picture, but you can read more about it and the town here.
The colors were absolutely beautiful from up high. It looked like something from a magazine!
Little explorers in training.
What a great day. Thanks for the suggestion, Kara! I will have to remember it for hikes to take family or friends to. I love that it was only a 20 minute drive away, a short hike but with great views. It's not often you have such a contrast between city lights and noises with nature but it was a neat combination. It is a hike I will be bringing Jeff back to for sure!
Woohoo! I love exploring nature! Such a perfect morning activity! Can't say thanks enough for the awesome visit!!!!
