Run the Rocks

Let me start off this post with some pictures of Johanna opening her first present for her 2nd birthday. I had it ordered from the Disney Store and when it came to our doorstep I couldn't wait until her actual b-day to give it to her...Jeff is wearing off on me!
Okay, now I'll get back to our weekend with Staci. When she first came out we looked up different races on the computer for over the weekend. We found one for that Sunday up at Red Rocks and knew that was the one we should do. Bright and early we headed to the top of the amphitheater to register. Grandma, Grandpa and GiGi came along to cheer us on and watch the kiddies.
The 5k was put on by Kaiser Permanente to raise awareness and donations for lung disease. They had giant stickers posted on the ground through each half mile stating different facts. My Grandpa Ted passed away from emphysema so it was nice to run it in honor of him.

Grandpa and Johanna hanging out while we were running.
Tons of people showed up, I think the number was somewhere around 2,500 people.
The first 1 1/2-2 miles was straight downhill, easy! But the last mile was entirely up the mountain. We all know how much I despise hill running. Yes, I walked a lot of that part.
The race ended with the stair climb to the top of the amphitheater. After running uphill for a mile you can  imagine how impossible this was. Staci is the mega athlete of the family so she still had some steam left in her! (You aren't missing anything in the 'action shot' pictures of Jeff and I).
We finished! Sadly, my stupid leg was acting up again so I've decided to take a 3 or 4 month break from running to see if it heals on its own :(
See my facial expression? NOT ACTING! haha.
They had a bunch of fresh organic produce for the runners to munch on after the run. I grabbed a bunch of rhubarb for Johanna. When I was little my Dad always grew giant bushes in our backyard. We would break of a stalk and eat it raw, it was always so yummy. This stuff was bleh- nasty! Not sure what went wrong, maybe Colorado isn't the greatest for rhubarb growing.
JJ news: he can now go from his tummy to sitting up on his own. He is still trying desperately to crawl and gets very upset that he can't. He schooches, turns, and crawls backwards pretty well so he is able to get to places on his own so I still need to be careful. He is a very curious boy and always trying to get his hands into something! Oh, and he's figured out he can make this obnoxiously loud screeching/screaming/squeal noise that he makes when no one is paying attention to him. Melissa--- he is turning into a LeoScreech!!!

  2. We used to grow rhubarb when I was little too. We never ate it without a lot of sugar (mostly we made a syrup with rhubarb and strawberries and put it over ice cream). Well done on another race! You guys are awesome!
