Today Johanna had her 2 month (and 9 days) check up. We had rescheduled the appointment until after she finished her antibiotic. She is looking great and Dr. said she was as cute as they get :) She weighs 12 lbs 2 oz. is 23 inches long and has a head circumference of 15.5 inches, so she is growing great!
I was worried about Johanna getting her shots since it seems like all we ever do is poke and prod her when she goes to the doctor. Her heel sticks while she was jaundiced, then the ER visit and now her shot series. Johanna was a champ though. She guzzled down the oral like a pro, probably from all the practice she's gotten over the last ten days of antibiotic! The Dr. and Nurse each held a leg and counted down from 3 to poke her at the same time. For about 1 second Johanna didn't seem to mind, then it registered- Ouch! She cried for a minute while I picked her up and calmed her down, then whimpered for another minute until she decided it wasn't so bad after all. What a brave little girl I have, and I still haven't seen her shed a tear!
The Dr. said she was looking fantastic and everyone commented on her chubby cheeks and double chin, I said she gets it from her Mom and Dad hehe... Unfortunately, we are being sent to Children's Hospital for a follow up on her UTI. Only 3% of little girls under the age of 2 are reported getting urinary tract infections. The cause could be from a vesicourethral reflux (some of her urine going up instead of down.) If this were the case, most instances babies out grow it quickly. In more serious cases a quick out-patient procedure is performed to correct the tubing. Jeff and I were debating whether or not to have the testing done, it would require another catheter and an x-ray. After talking to my Dr. though we decided it was for the best we wouldn't want her to continue to get UTI's and risk kidney infection. So...we will be going BACK to the Dr. to have yet another uncomfortable procedure done to little Johanna :(

All of the above pictures were taken before her shots. Now that she has been poked she is even more sleepy. She has been napping for two hours straight and still going strong, typically her day time naps are only about an hour long at a time. She must be so tuckered out from her big appointment!
Weird how you mentioned the reflux thing, cause Leah had that when she was little. Oh I hope Johanna does not have that, ask Leah, she still remembers it. I love all the pictures, she is such a doll, just love those cheeks.
ReplyDeleteI love this post. I laughed out loud when I saw her passed out on the tummy time mat. Too funny. They don't stay tiny for long... she's already 12 lbs!!! Amazing that they can fix the uretha bit lickety split if that's the problem, modern medicine is a marvel. She's just lovely Emily, keep the posts comin'!
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of her on your giant bed...she looks like a tiny little thing. We will pray for the UTI business to be nothing. :)
ReplyDeleteAww, she is such a cutie. I also love her cheeks :) Reminds me of Max. I will be praying that everything is okay & she doesn't need the procedure.
