Big Girl Undies Day 2

Two down one to go... Let's hope tomorrow is a miracle!

"Come in Momma, follow me!"

 Okay, so today wasn't bad. In fact, the first ten hours were fantastic! Johanna is really getting the hang of this big girl undies thing. She is going over a half hour between needing to use the potty and then either gets a panic-look, says "...Mommy!" or I'll ask her to let me know when she needed to use the potty and she replies, "Um, sure!" Of course none of these are an actual Mom, I need to use the potty but hey it's getting the job done for only two days in. I will tell you though, it's been no easy task and I'm not sure how life in the real world is going to work. I'm sure I will follow her every move asking her if her undies are dry and have all nearest bathrooms mapped out for all inevitable emergency trips we'll take on a seconds notice.

You can never have too many undies...

We were doing so great she had only gotten a little pee in 2 undies but had made it to the potty every time. After telling me she had to go 'poo she went in the potty all on her own again. Grandma had driven by about twenty minutes prior and had left a gift at our doorstep. After Johanna finished going potty I pretended to take a phone call from her favorite princess, Rapunzel. I had a one sided conversation with her about Johanna going potty on the big girl potty. After I 'hung up' the phone I told her that was Rapunzel on the phone and that she was so proud of her for going potty that she left her a gift at the door. Johanna was so excited she raced down the stairs as fast as her little legs would allow her. She was so ecstatic to see the neatly wrapped package outside the door, it was so cute. Later when Jeff was opening the door from returning from work Johanna got so excited and gasped so loudly, "It's 'Punzel!! 'Punzel is here!!" Okay, so I felt a little bad for Jeff that she was so excited to see Rapunzel and was just a little let down to see who walked through the door instead.

One...two...three...BLAST OFF!

Things got a little hectic once Jeff was home. We were busy playing with the new rocket courtesy of Grand-errrr Rapunezel...busy eating chinese food (I wasn't cooking!) and busy playing with our toys in the basement that things got a little out of hand. I wasn't doing my job of watching her every move and she was too excited with the extra stimulation that she had several accidents one after the other. This is where those 6 principles come in to practice (love, consistency, dedication, positive reinforcement, patience) particularly for me dedication and consistency! Luckily one of the skills I've acquired from working with DD and elderly is my high threshold of patience and ability to deal with bodily fluids on a daily basis ;) I brought Johanna up to her room for some quiet 1:1 time and she was able to focus and get back to learning her body signals.

With all this time trapped indoors we've been working on our sharing skills. Johanna was having a hard time sharing JJ's toys (she was stealing them all) so we brought in a Johanna basket to share with her brother.

 

 

How did nap and bedtime go? DRY DRY DRY! Can I say that any louder? Okay, so it could be a fluke but I'm so thrilled to know it's possible. I put her down for nap thinking I was just going to have to clean it anyway so let her sleep for as long as possible. She woke up 3 hours later and was dry for the second time. For bedtime we stopped fluids again at 5 and then before bed I said, "Mommy likes to go potty before she goes to bed, what do you think, should we see if you need to go potty too?" I'm not sure if my wording was wrong since her method is pretty persistent with not asking them if they need to go but how else would you ask them? I did check on her around 2am again since that is when she was wet the night before. She was out like a lamp and dry! I was still paranoid so I carried her to the potty and said "Do you want to see if you have to go again?" she went then and I put her back to bed and she was out in a flash. This morning I heard her playing with her animals in bed around 6:30am. Normally I would let her play till 7 since that is when she normally wakes up but I was worried she was wet so I came in to see her. I was so surprised to see she was dry! Yay!! Let's see how she does today.

Aunt Lissa, your Minnie Mouse dress is still a huge hit in this house. Even though its falling apart she still thinks it's the coolest thing ever.

Oh wait, let me get the whole outfit. Yes, still wearing the shoes.

I didn't count pee-pees this time because I can't go off of how many prizes she earned. She is starting to thrive on praise and personal accomplishment so they aren't even needed every time! Except when I introduced M&M's this morning...this girl has a sweet tooth like her Momma and right after she finished her M(?) she was asking for more...

Let me end this day's entry by giving a teaser for day 3. She went into the bathroom on her own and said she had to go potty...yay! Stay tuned for more on our 'final' day of the 3 day method.
