JJ Update

Okay, so is this not the cutest picture you've ever seen? Look at my boys heehee... I just love JJ's little hat, and vest I want to gobble him up! And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Jeff's Cousin, Staci came out a couple weeks ago and took some beautiful family photos of my family and the Overman family all together. I love every single picture and will be making a gigantic long post here in the future of my favorites (which happens to be every single one because Staci is awesome!) But until now here is a couple of our little JJ man.
I just wanted to write a quick JJ update since I was such an emotional mess in my last entry. So, after talking to my friend who is in her last years of anesthesia med school I am feeling much better. My main concern was putting JJ under general anesthesia and she made me feel much better explaining what would happen and how common the procedure is. I am feeling much more confident knowing everything will be just fine and what I should be expecting. He saw two physicians beforehand and both said immediately it was a cyst and no problem they are super common. His primary said she'd like him to be seen by a pediatric surgeon only to see if it was something he wanted to remove sooner than later since fluid cysts that are on the back can become bothersome in school aged kids after sitting in their chairs all day long. They are prone to getting infected which causes discomfort.
She referred us to Dr. Rothenberg. He is the Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, Denver, Colorado and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, New York, New York. He is a world leader in the field of endoscopic surgery in infants and children and has pioneered many of the procedures using minimally invasive techniques. He is incredibly qualified and also super nice and super compassionate. Well when we met with him of course his immediate reaction is I think this is what it is, but of course we can't tell just from feeling it and seeing it on a screen, lets remove it get it taken care of no big deal. Of course you can't just say something is a cyst without examining it for sure so they need to look at it to be certain, hence the biopsy. I don't know about you but the word biopsy in itself just freaks me out so that was another red flag for me. But really I just need to look at it as a blessing, remove it now before he remembers it and is traumatized by the procedure. Mom raised an excellent point, surgeons are trained to operate and that is what they want to do. Why wait 6 month or year to see if it goes away when it is a simple thirty minute procedure now that he won't remember and we can clear our minds knowing it was nothing. Of course I'm still calling his Doctor on Tuesday (she doesn't work Mondays) just to be sure it's what she recommends and I may even call my Doctor too. But if we get the go ahead he's set for Tuesday, November 13th at 7:30am.
But as you can see I'm still a little freaked out and not sleeping well so here's to November 15th (my birthday!) when this is all over with and I get the call after his procedure saying nothing to worry about. So keep sending the positive vibes our way. For those who were wondering, it is tiny like not even the size of my pinky nail. It really is one of those no big deal things and I'm making it into a big deal with my worry so my promise to myself is no more thinking about it until it's over! Oh, and also thank you all for sharing your experiences I am feeling a world better knowing you all have had your fair share of cyst stories. Infact I am feeling like the odd ball out not ever having one before! Love to you all!

  1. I <3 the picture of J.J. and Jeff. He is such a handsome little man. How did you get it on your blog without the writing on it? I think we are all ready for 2013 (health wise).

    1. I copied and pasted the screen. I normally don't do it for professional pictures bc it's technically illegal but I figured Staci hopefully wouldn't mind :)
